20.02.2025 – der Tag, an dem die Bond-Erde kurz still stand!
Es hatte sich eigentlich schon abgezeichnet und es war auch immer wieder Thema in diversen Bondforen, aber dass es tatsächlich und so plötzlich kommt, ist dennoch eine riesige Überraschung. Der nächste Schock für viele Bondfans – und das nach dem Ende von NO TIME TO DIE!
Michael G. Wilson (ein Rückzug von Michael wurde erwartet) und Barbara Broccoli werfen das Handtuch (sie halten jedoch weiterhin 50% der Rechte) und übergeben die kreative Kontrolle über die Bond-Reihe komplett an ihren Partner Amazon MGM Studios. Was dies für BOND 26 und die Bond-Reihe im Allgemeinen bedeutet bzw. was Amazon nun vor hat, sobald dieser Deal abgeschlossen ist, das wissen wir noch nicht. Aber eine „Erweiterung“ der Produktformate rund um James Bond wird sicherlich kommen. Laut Deadline lässt sich Amazon die alleinige kreative Kontrolle über Bond über eine 1 Milliarde Dollar zusätzlich kosten.
Wir wissen auch nicht, wie weit die Arbeiten im Hintergrund schon fortgeschritten sind – aber es könnte nun alles vergleichsweise schnell vorangehen. Hoffen wir, dass Inhalt & Qualität auch bei den neuen Verantwortlichen von Amazon hoch gehalten werden und man die Fehler anderer Studios bei anderen großen Franchises nicht wiederholt… Und es gibt ja auch zahlreiche großartige Produktionen von Amazon („Fleabag“, „Jack Ryan“, „The Boys“ etc.), die uns zuversichtlich stimmen dürfen. Hoffen wir auf das Beste!

Amazon MGM Studios, Michael G. Wilson und Barbara Broccoli gaben heute bekannt, dass sie ein neues Joint Venture gegründet haben, um die Rechte am James-Bond-Franchise zu verwalten. Die Parteien bleiben weiterhin Miteigentümer der Marke. Im Rahmen der neuen Vereinbarung wird Amazon MGM Studios nach Abschluss der Transaktion die kreative Kontrolle über das James-Bond-Franchise übernehmen.
„Seit seinem Kino-Debüt vor über 60 Jahren ist James Bond eine der ikonischsten Figuren der Filmgeschichte“, sagte Mike Hopkins, Leiter von Prime Video und Amazon MGM Studios. „Wir sind Albert R. Broccoli und Harry Saltzman dankbar, dass sie James Bond auf die Kinoleinwand gebracht haben, und Michael G. Im Jahr 2022 übernahm Amazon MGM und damit ein umfangreiches Archiv mit über 4.000 Filmen und 17.000 TV-Serien. Seit der Übernahme von MGM besitzt Amazon die Vertriebsrechte an allen James-Bond-Filmen. Durch diese neue Vereinbarung erhält Amazon nun auch die kreative Kontrolle über zukünftige Produktionen.“

Under the terms of the new venture, Amazon MGM Studios will gain creative control of the James Bond franchise following closing of the transaction.

“With my 007 career spanning nearly sixty incredible years, I am stepping back from producing the James Bond films to focus on art and charitable projects. Therefore, Barbara and I agree, it is time for our trusted partner, Amazon MGM Studios, to lead James Bond into the future,” said Wilson.

In 2022, Amazon acquired MGM, including a vast catalog with more than 4,000 films and 17,000 TV shows. Since the MGM acquisition, Amazon has held rights to distribute all of the James Bond films, and as a result of this transaction will have creative control over future productions.
